We are an urban farming family who has been growing and selling beautiful heirloom vegetables and fresh herbs since 2008. As is common among farmers, we often find ourselves bursting with produce during harvest season. We do not want to waste all of our hard work. So a few years ago we began dehydrating things that did not sell at market. At first we just wanted to make spices for ourselves. Then, since the timing was right, we decided to give spices as Christmas gifts. This is what led us to our name "Solstice Spices" because we live by the cycles of the sun and Christmastime, to us, is the celebration of the Winter Solstice.

As time went by, we received a lot of positive feedback and "can I have another jar of spices this year?" So we starting buying produce from our farming friends who also had more than they knew what to do with. In 2013 we created our logo and labels and began selling our spices to the public.

It is our intention to always operate with integrity. As consumers, we prefer to buy from honest people who are trying to do the right thing. We believe other consumers want that choice too and we want to help provide it. We don't claim perfection, but we use our moral compass in every decision we make.

We are passionate about good food and farms and are continually educating ourselves about the issues of our day. It is our goal to someday live on our own small farm and share it with the community. We love teaching children about farms and food. It is pure joy to see them make connections to nature. Our own son is growing up at the farmer's market and we love that he can identify all the plants and herbs. He also loves to eat his vegetables!
